Keeping The Moon by Sarah Dessen - Book Review

Title: Keeping The Moon

Publication: May 11, 2004
Series: None.

Summary:

Never underestimate the power of friendship.

When Colie goes to spend the summer at the beach, she doesn't expect much.

But Colie didn't count on meeting Morgan and Isabel.

Through them, she learns what true friendship is all about, and finally starts to realize her potential.

And that just might open the door to her first chance at love...

My Review:

I really enjoyed this book. I wasn't sure I was going to like it in the beginning chapter because Colie was a little irritating at first. I then started to grow to like her though. Sarah Dessen seems to do this a lot in her books, I've realized this, that she seems to skim through the days. I think that's why I always would give her books 4 stars instead of 5 because I wanted it to be more descriptive I guess. But I do love her books, they are very beautiful.

- Colie
So as I said, I didn't really think I was going to like this book because of her character but I found myself really liking Colie's character. I didn't love Colie but I did like her. I wish she was a little more open though, she always would keep to herself and I just wanted her to speak up numerous times.

- Norman
I really liked Norman. The only thing I really wished was different was how engaged Norman's character was. It was mostly all about Colie, Isabel, and Morgan I sometimes forgot he was even there until the last few chapters and the very few times he would be mentioned. For some reason, at the beginning I thought he was older, like in his 30's for some reason. I have no idea why I thought that...

- Isabel
I loved Isabel's character. Even though she was very rude a lot of times, I did enjoy her character. She was just so real, I loved her.

- Morgan
No. No. No. I didn't like Morgan one bit. How naive she was just got me so frustrated. I couldn't stand Morgan's character at all. Everything about her irritated me.

Overall, I was expecting something big to happen, like with her mother to finally talk to her about not being so controlling. Or just something to get me hyped but it didn't happen so I was disappointed but the book does have a beautiful message to it. I absolutely loved Mira, she did things that she enjoyed and didn't care one bit about what others thought, I really admired her character. Not my favorite by Dessen, but this was still a great book.

Blogger Recognition Award

Ah!! Okay, so I was nominated by the amazing Angel Erin @ Angel Erin's Book Obsession and by the fabulous Theepika @ Just That Girl
Thank you soo so much for the nomination! :)

Here's my story: There's not really a big story to tell actually, I used to own another blog but I didn't like how I set it up so I decided to make a whole new blog up and change up the theme and title. My old blog used to be called 'The Little Bookworm Girl' and now it's 'The Midnight Princess'
The transformation of the names you ask? Well for some odd reason the best time I like to read happens to be around midnight. No one in my is house awake so I take that time to listen to music and get onto my book. I find that I actually get more reading done through the night than during the day!

Soo let's see the rules!

1.) Select 15 other blogs you want to give the award to. Do some digging if you must! Find those blogs. You cannot nominate yourself or the person who has nominated you.
2.)Write a post to show off your award. Give a brief story on how your blog got started, and give a piece of advice or two to new bloggers. Thank whoever nominated you, and provide a link to their blog. List who you've nominated in the post. Make sure to attach the award itself! You can do this by right clicking, saving and uploading the image above.
3.)Comment on each blog and let them know you've nominated them. Provide a link to the award post you created.
4.) Provide a link to the original post. Edge of Night. That way anyone can find the original guidelines and post if needed and we keep it from becoming mutated and becoming confusing.

Here are my nominations!

1. Kaitlin @ Reading Is My Treasure
2. Anna @ Enchanted by YA
4. Olivia @ Fictionally Obsessed
6. Carrie @ The Book Goddess

Summary:

Everyone is entitled to making their own choices in life, but a decision can make or break you. For Jacinta Kelly, hers came in the form of running away from everything that reminded her of her roots.  Living in rural Ireland was hard enough, but living with her mother’s mental illness and her obsession with her garden took its toll. One winter, the world as she knows it changes. Jacinta becomes aware of her own mortality, and how fragile her existence truly is.  Alone and frightened; to live or die, the choice is hers.

My Review:

I recieved a digital copy of this book free of cost for a read-to-review basis.

This was a beautiful story. I didn't think I was going to like this book at the first few chapters, I was honestly getting bored but then things started to pick up. This was very touching and really emotional, at least it was emotional for me. I can honestly say that I would read this a hundred times over and over again. It was a short book to read and boy was it a tear fest in my room.

- Jacinta
I felt so bad for Jacinta, countless times. I don't really like when the main character is a child because I get annoyed when reading from their point of view, and I did get annoyed by Jacinta a few times but she is a strong and great character. She has lost so much and I was so glad with how this ended.

Overall, there were so many great things about this book. I honestly wasn't expecting much, but this was a beautiful book. I honestly can't stand bullies and Jacinta was a very powerful little girl, I would have just left and not engage in violence but I admired Jacinta for standing up for herself many times even though there were consequences for her afterwards. I can't get over how much I cried, this was a great read. Get your tissues ready!

My Review:

I recieved a digital copy of this book free of cost for a read-to-review basis.

I really really really enjoyed this book. I fell in love with the cover and the book itself was really great. This was an enjoyable book, and the romance was just oh so adorable. I love Maggie and Caleb, they are my one true pairing lol! I surprised myself because I found myself really enjoying this. I'm not into the whole 'fall in love at first sight' thing but this was really great.

- Maggie
Maggie is an extraordinary character. At first, I didn't think I was going to like her so much because she was like in a little dark cave in the beginning of the book, I couldn't connect to her. But then she starts to unfold and I really enjoyed her character. I loved how she was able to control her abilities. She was a great character.

- Caleb
Ah, Caleb is so sweet. I really loved Caleb's character. He was so sweet and caring to Maggie. His restraint to jump into their new relationship was admirable. His jealous side was very funny to read. I loved Maggie and Caleb together, they were just so adorable.

Overall, the concept of this book was great. I would get confused with all the characters being thrown everywhere because it was really hard to remember who was who. Especially during the plot, I was just thinking to myself, "wait, are you the bad guy?" because I simply couldn't bring myself to remember every single character in this book. But everything in this book was really great. I really enjoyed this and I can't wait to read more on this series.

My Review:

“How does a guy like you promise someone forever at eighteen?”
“Easy,” he said, pressing a soft kiss into the corner of my mouth. “He finds a girl like you.”

I loved this book so much. This was on the first books I added to my TBR when I first joined goodreads in 2013 and I am so glad I finally got around to reading it. I want to keep reading it over and over again because this was amazing. This book made me cry and laugh so many times I lost count.

- Lucy
I loved Lucy's character from the beginning. She is so funny and awesome. I was so sad about her dog though. Am I the only one who wanted the dog to stay through the whole book? Anyway, I just wished she didn't jump to conclusions so fast though. She did that so many times through the book. I loved how this ended for her and I can't wait to see what happens in the next books in the series.

- Jude
Oh my god Jude is amazing. He does have quite a temper though, I wouldn't want to get on his bad side. He is protective and an awesome boyfriend, more than he gives himself credit for. This ended well for Jude as well. Perfect. I now love Nicole Williams, I was really impressed with her writing.

Overall, if it wasn't obvious, I loved this book. I have already requested the second book in the series from my library and I can't wait to get started on it. There was a lot of drama in this book and freaking amazing romance. I ca;t wait to see where Lucy and Jude takes me next.

Forever by Judy Blume - ARC Review

Summary:

Katherine and Michael meet at a New Year's Eve party. They're attracted to each other, they grow to love each other. And once they've decided their love is forever, they make love.

It's the beginning of an intense and exclusive relationship, with a future all planned. Until Katherine's parents insist that she and Michael put their love to the test with a summer apart...

"Forever" is written for an older age group than Judy Blume's other novels for children. It caused a storm of controversy when it was first published because of its explicit sexual content.

It was a book ahead of its time - and remains, after thirty years in print, a teenage best-seller. America's No. 1 children's author has written some of the best books of our time about real-life issues - family stress and pressures, what happens when your parents divorce, the problems of growing up and sexual awakening, bereavement - with insight, sensitivity and honesty.

The response of readers all around the world continues to make her one of the best-loved writers ever published.

My Review:

I recieved a digital copy of this book free of cost for a read-to-review basis.

This was absolutely terrible. I knew it from the moment I finished the first chapter. The characters were just so annoying and ugh I hated this. I really wanted to like this one but this was horrendous. So many of my friends on goodreads read this book and rated 4 or 5 stars and I was thinking to myself, "Hmm maybe I should give this a try." and I was disappointed. This was my first book from Judy Blume and I'm not really impressed.

- Katherine
In the beginning, I kind of liked Katherine's character. She seemed nice, and I was really hoping she was going to be amazing. But sadly, I was again disappointed. She let Michael rush her into things and I kept wanting to throw bricks at her face.

- Michael
Nope, nooo I hated Michael. He didn't care that Katherine might have not been just yet ready for sex but all he cared about were his needs. He did have his romantic sides but everytime they were together all he wanted was sex. I really wanted to like him but he was just too much. He was just so impulsive I wanted to throw bricks at him too.

Overall, I wanted to throw bricks at everyone in this book except for Katherine's family. They were the only good things about this book. I'm not trying to throw so much dish onto this review but I mean I was hoping for better when I saw how many people loved this book. It was just so terrible. I mean I can see why some people might enjoy this but I wasn't impressed.
